Information for visitors
Although tourism facilities are still under construction, visitors are warmly welcome to Magoroto. Day visits are also possible due to the short distance from Muheza, Tanga and Pangani. If you are planning a visit, read the below information carefully.
How to get there
There is a reasonably good road connection from Muheza to Magoroto. The driving route is as follows:
From Muheza follow the Amani road for about 2,5 km. Then take the road on the right that takes you to Magila villlage. Follow that road up to the Magoroto Hills, through Mgambo village to the Magrotto Estate. From the Estate headquarters the road continues ca. 2 km ending up in Mwembeni village. A four wheel drive is recomended, especially during the rain seasons (March-May, Oct-Nov), when the road may be in poor condition in some places. View road connection on the map.
The most comfortable means of arriving to the area is by your own four wheel drive car. Other means of transport include hiring a taxi from Muheza bus station or hiring a motorbike taxi at AMTICO (the starting point of Amani road just before crossing the railway line).
Facilities:
Electricity: The area is not connected with the national electricity grid. Electricity is provided by a generator in the Magrotto Estate visitor houses.
Telephone: Mobile telephone network is reasonably good, but depends on the operator. TIGO and Celtel have the best working network in the area.
